How to Care For Your Underwear

We craft all of our underwear from responsibly sourced, long-wearing and high-quality materials.

Caring for your lingerie correctly can help your garments last longer, retain their colour and stay comfortable, so you won’t need to replace them as often. This is one of the easiest ways to reduce your environmental impact. Extending the lifetime and wear amount of an item of clothing is one of the easiest ways you can be a more sustainable consumer.

Here are our top tips for keeping your lingerie looking lovely for longer.

Do...

Wash your underwear on a handwash setting and at no hotter than 30 degrees to ensure that delicate lace or mesh designs remain soft and supportive. Or better yet, hand wash in cold water to save on energy and water usage. If you have to use a washing machine, we recommend using an eco-friendly, colour-safe laundry detergent to preserve the colour of your underwear. If you have a mesh laundry bag, place your bras inside it before washing so they’re less likely to snag on other items of clothing.

Make sure you have a good rotation of bras. Giving the elastic in your bra time to relax between wearing and washing is important, so don’t overwash your bras and make sure you have enough options so you’re not wearing the same bra too many days in a row!

Store your underwear inside a mesh laundry bag. Fasten the clasps on your bras to ensure the hook and eye closures don’t catch on any other delicate items of clothing, causing snags or rips. Store your knickers in a separate laundry bag or drawer from your bras to prevent the hook and eye clasps from ripping the delicate fabric of your knickers

Don’t...

Don’t tumble-dry your underwear. The heat from the drying cycle will affect the material and ultimately alter the fit of your lingerie, making it uncomfortable. Instead, allow your underwear to air dry flat so it retains its shape and elasticity.

Don’t hang your bras up by their straps this can cause them to become stretched and affect the overall fit. To keep the intended fit, lay your bras flat and store them in a drawer or mesh laundry bag so they retain their shape.

Don’t put your stained knickers straight into the washing machine. We’re all familiar with those annoying discharge or period stains affecting the look of our favourite knickers. Always soak your stained underwear in cool water first to help begin to lift the stain, before either completing a handwash or putting your washing machine on a delicate, cool wash. Delicate stain removers can help to shift more stubborn stains.

Don’t use bleach or harsh chemicals when washing your Lemonade Dolls underwear and definitely don’t iron or dry clean any of your lingerie! Doing so will damage your underwear and ruin the look and texture.
