Rinse & Repeat

Underwear, one of those essential items that we wear every single day and seem to constantly be washing, wearing out and then replacing them in what feels like a never ending cycle. But when our undies are made, they’re designed to stand the test of time; cutting edge materials and expert construction to ensure your undies keep up with you. But there’s only so much we can do, a big part of making your undies last is how you look after them.
One of the best ways of keeping your underwear forever fresh is how you wash them, not to mention making small changes to your laundry habits will not only help lower your energy bills but extending the lifetime and wear amount of an item of clothing is one of the easiest ways of being a sustainable consumer.

Keep it under 30
According to Which, if the whole UK switched from 40ºC washes to 30ºC, it would be the equivalent of taking almost 400,000 cars off the road. Washing your underwear at 30ºC degrees or under doesn’t just use way less energy than your standard 50ºC-60ºC hot wash - you’ll use up to 40% less energy per year, but it actually protects textiles from the harshness of hot water.

Delicate items and textiles, especially lingerie can get damaged, shrunken or worn out from too much heat meaning you’ll go through pairs of pants much faster, so washing your undies at any temperature over 30ºC is a big no no. Another benefit of washing under 30ºC if you need another one, especially if you own a lot of our brightly coloured styles, is that you don't risk any colours fading, running or bleeding onto other garments with a cold wash. Fresh undies, vibrant colours and lower energy bills, perfect!

Pick your colours right!
Even on a cold wash, if you’re mixing lights and darks there's still a risk of discoloration, especially if you’re washing bright and super light colours with black clothes. Ever noticed your white socks going slightly grey over time? Your pink undies getting dull after a few washes? That’s why! Keep your bright and bold Lemonade undies gorgeous and wash them separately to your black and dark laundry. And remember to always use a colour safe detergent when you’re washing your Lemonade undies.

Remember, when you shop at Lemonade to only buy the amount of undies you need;
  • 3-4 pairs to feel cute and try us out
  • 4-6 pairs if you need a undie drawer refresh. Swap our old knicks with newness
  • 8-12 pairs for a total underwear drawer TRANSFORMATION.

If you do have old pairs of undies you’ve gotten plenty of wear out of and are ready to part with, don’t send them to landfill; did you know that we’ve partnered with Terracycle to help our members recycle their old and unwanted underwear into new materials.
